Korean at a staffed parcel desk: collect your delivery and check the name

You have a collection notice, but the person at the desk still needs to find your parcel. Start with why you came, then show the relevant notice and check the recipient name. These phrases are for a staffed collection point, not instructions for opening a parcel locker.

Collect a parcel in Korean: explain your visit, show a collection notice, ask what identification is needed and flag a different recipient name.

Six phrases for the counter

Romanization is a reading aid, not English phonetic spelling. eo is one vowel (ㅓ), eu is ㅡ, and final consonants are short. In 왔어요, ss marks the tense ㅆ sound in [와써요]. Romanization does not capture every detail of natural speech.

01

택배 찾으러 왔어요.

Taekbae chajeureo wasseoyo.

I’m here to collect a parcel.

찾으러 왔어요 explains the purpose of your visit. 택배 keeps the request about a delivery rather than a lost item.

02

받는 사람 이름은 여기 있어요.

Banneun saram ireumeun yeogi isseoyo.

The recipient’s name is here.

Point to the name on the relevant notice. 받는 사람 is the recipient, not necessarily the person who placed or paid for the order.

03

이 문자 보여 드리면 돼요?

I munja boyeo deurimyeon dwaeyo?

Is it enough if I show you this text message?

Ask before treating the message as sufficient. Show the collection notice, not your whole message history.

Normal speed

Slower practice

04

신분증이 필요해요?

Sinbunjeungi piryohaeyo?

Do I need identification?

This asks about the requirement. It does not claim that every pickup point requires the same document or accepts a copy.

Normal speed

Slower practice

05

이름이 달라요.

Ireumi dallayo.

The name is different.

Use this if the label does not match. Pause the handover so the staff member can check; a similar box is not enough.

Slower practice

06

어디에서 받을 수 있어요?

Eodieseo badeul su isseoyo?

Where can I collect it?

Use this if you are at the wrong counter or building. You are asking for the collection location, not a new delivery address.

A notice helps; it does not settle every check

Keep three things separate: the delivery has been announced, the parcel is actually held here, and the staff member has completed the checks needed to hand it over. A message alone may not establish all three. If the desk cannot find it, show the location named in the notice and ask where to collect it. Do not use this lesson to collect someone else’s parcel without checking the service’s procedure.

Two short counter conversations

Finding the right parcel

Bode
택배 찾으러 왔어요.
I’m here to collect a parcel.

ShuShu
받는 사람 이름이 뭐예요?
What is the recipient’s name?

Bode
받는 사람 이름은 여기 있어요.
The recipient’s name is here.

Bode
이 문자 보여 드리면 돼요?
Is it enough if I show you this text message?

Bode points to the relevant notice and waits for the answer. No reply here guarantees that the parcel has been released.

Catching a mismatch

ShuShu
이 택배 맞아요?
Is this your parcel?

Bode
이름이 달라요.
The name is different.

ShuShu
잠시만요. 확인해 볼게요.
One moment. I’ll check.

Bode
네, 감사합니다.
Okay, thank you.

The short correction is more useful than guessing that the label belongs to you.

Try three decisions

1. The label shows a different recipient. What should you say?

  1. 이름이 달라요.
  2. 택배 찾으러 왔어요.
  3. 신분증이 필요해요?

Answer and reason: A. 이름이 달라요 identifies the mismatch. The other phrases explain your visit or ask about identification.

2. What does 이 문자 보여 드리면 돼요? ask?

  1. Whether the parcel is free
  2. Whether showing this message is sufficient
  3. Whether the staff member can send a new message

Answer and reason: B. The phrase checks whether showing the message meets the requirement. Wait for the answer.

3. The staff member says your parcel is not held at this desk. Which question helps next?

  1. 이름이 달라요.
  2. 받는 사람 이름은 여기 있어요.
  3. 어디에서 받을 수 있어요?

Answer and reason: C. Ask for the collection location. Repeating a name does not clarify which desk or building you need.

Sources and scope

The official language sources below support vocabulary and romanization. The conversations and choices are original teaching examples, not a courier’s collection policy.

Before you collect

Does 찾으러 왔어요 mean the parcel was lost?

No. In this context it means you came to collect it. Naming 택배 makes the purpose clear; the verb 찾다 can have different meanings in other situations.

Can I show a screenshot instead of identification?

The language cannot guarantee that. Ask 이 문자 보여 드리면 돼요? and 신분증이 필요해요?, then follow the particular pickup point’s requirements.

What if the recipient is a friend?

That is a different collection situation. Tell the staff member whose parcel it is and ask about the authorized collection procedure. Do not present a matching surname or message as permission.

Practise a clear handover

Swap roles and practise finding the parcel, then repeat with the wrong name on the label. Visit the official LOING website to explore more.
