Korean at a photo shop: check print size, borders and cropping

LOING 2026. 11. 3. 08:00

Specify width and height, protect the whole image and check a preview before ordering two prints.

You have a photo to print, not a new photo to take. Giving a paper size alone does not settle whether the image will be cropped or have a white border. Ask to see the result before it is printed.

Bode and ShuShu examine two portrait-oriented landscape photographs with white borders.

Six useful lines

Customer · Say this

이 사진을 인화하고 싶어요.

I sajineul inhwahago sipeoyo.

I’d like to print this photo.

인화 is printing an existing image.

Customer · Say this

가로 십 센티미터, 세로 십오 센티미터로 해 주세요.

Garo sip sentimiteo, sero sibo sentimiteoro hae juseyo.

Please make it ten centimetres wide and fifteen centimetres high.

Width comes first here; both dimensions use centimetres.

Customer · Say this

가장자리에 흰 여백이 있나요?

Gajangjarie huin yeobaegi innayo?

Is there a white border around the edge?

Ask about the border rather than assuming it.

Customer · Say this

사진이 잘리지 않게 해 주세요.

Sajini jalliji anke hae juseyo.

Please make sure the photo is not cropped.

This prioritizes retaining the image content.

Customer · Say this

인화하기 전에 어떻게 나오는지 볼 수 있을까요?

Inhwahagi jeone eotteoke naoneunji bol su isseulkkayo?

Could I see how it will look before you print it?

Ask for a preview before production.

Customer · Say this

두 장이고, 흰 여백이 있는 거죠?

Du jangigo, huin yeobaegi inneun geojyo?

It’s two prints, with a white border, right?

Confirm quantity and border only after discussing the result.

Using the conversation

가로 is width and 세로 is height. The 10 × 15 cm size is a practice choice, not a shop standard. If the photo and paper have different proportions, filling the paper without a border may crop the image. Explain your priority and check the preview.

The Latin guide is approximate: eo represents 어, eu represents 으. Practise sip and sibo in 십 센티미터 and 십오 센티미터 so ten and fifteen stay distinct. The guide is not audio and does not show every connected-speech change.

Try it yourself

Point to a sample image and request the practice dimensions. Your partner shows a pretend preview with part of the image missing. Ask for no cropping and inspect the revised border. Confirm two prints only when the preview matches your request.

Check your understanding 1: What do 가로 십 and 세로 십오 specify here?

  1. Width 15 cm, height 10 cm
  2. Width 10 cm, height 15 cm
  3. Ten prints and fifteen borders
Show the answer 1

Width 10 cm, height 15 cm

가로 gives width; 세로 gives height, both in centimetres.

Check your understanding 2: The image and paper proportions differ. What is safest to check?

  1. That borderless always keeps the whole image
  2. That size alone settles cropping
  3. A preview and your priority
Show the answer 2

A preview and your priority

A full image and borderless fill may conflict.

Check your understanding 3: What does 두 장 count?

  1. Two printed copies
  2. Two centimetres
  3. Two photo sessions
Show the answer 3

Two printed copies

장 counts flat items such as photo prints.

Questions you may still have

Is 인화 the same as 촬영?

No. 촬영 is taking a photo; 인화 prints an existing photo onto paper.

Can I ask for no border and no cropping together?

Ask, but different proportions may make both conditions incompatible. State which matters more and inspect a preview.

What should I include with dimensions?

Width, height and the unit. Here they are 10 cm wide and 15 cm high.
